How do you learn the Art of Listening?

If there’s a chance for a person to change an aspect in his life, he really would. However, it is not doable with a snap of a finger, since it requires an incredible amount of effort, time and commitment to make it possible. Changing a part of your life will definitely impact you months or years from now. So why not start today?

People want to change, but the big question is always “how”. In my perspective, you only have to change three things and everything; even your confidence will follow.

1)     Learn the art of listening

The art of conversation is always two-way: where two people take part in talking, and the other on listening. Learning to listen requires a lot of patience, and a person should always have a mindset that he doesn’t need to have a reply all the time. The best listener are also happens to be great advisers, and have the capacity to strengthen and provide constructive criticisms to another person. However, listening is not only about simply talking, it also comes from reading, watching public speeches, as well as interacting with like-minded people. Open-mindedness is where a great listener can start. If you are keen in hunting new knowledge, then it’s time to start opening your mind and learn to keep your mouths closed for a time being. Learning to listen also reaps great benefits! Not only you would be able to learn great things, you would also be able to practice your humility, patience and mindfulness.

2)     Words should go from one ear to the heart, not the other ear

A person cannot be considered a good listener if he isn’t taking every words spoken to his heart. Knowledge becomes valuable only if taken into thoughts and even actions. A few years ago, I read one book which I have I knew I just read but never remember and it was nothing, like words and time just passed by and it didn’t do anything to change my life. Coincidentally, after a few years of stumbling on the same book, I started to take what I read mindfully, and my life changed drastically. Everything just happened, and now, I’m different than the impatient, immature person I was before.

3)     Follow the best kind of people

Listening to others, reading great books or attending informative seminars does great deal for our knowledge bank. It might be the politically correct ones, so we will know what is the right thing to do; it may be the wrong, so we would know what to avoid ourselves of becoming; as well as to understand what we need or not. The question is, who to follow. Follow the best people, read the most inspiring authors, create a habit of listening to people who talk sensible things where your interests meet. Old habits do really die hard, but the habit of listening is one of the best habits to learn.

Start these steps with baby steps until they become a great leap. It will teach you to realize dreams and take courage to initiate, to be more mindful and gain an immeasurable amount of patience. At first, listening is a bothersome task, as most people are always ready for a reply. However, by trying to differ yourself by listening to them, who knows, you might change their lives too.

Five Traits of Highly Effective and Successful Online Marketers

Five Traits of Highly Effective and Successful Online Marketers

Marketing is crucial to any business, be it big or small. From being a mere function of an organization, marketing has become one of deciding factors of business success. Gone are the days when businesses used to solely rely on traditional tools of marketing such print & electronic media, telemarketing, door-to-door marketing, etc., to get the word out about their product offering. But with the advent of Internet, the role of marketing has also evolved to newer and more effective dimensions across the globe. Even businesses in countries like India, Africa and Middle Eastern states like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, etc., which adopted the Internet way very late, have adopted the newer ways of marketing. As a result, more avenues for marketing have opened up before businesses. To utilize these newer methods, the scope for those looking for a marketing job has widened too.

Be it the conventional or unconventional fields of marketing, the function don’t go out of demand for both business as well as job seekers. Today many students are opting for courses that will help them make a career in marketing. Even professionals with experience in some other field think of making a career shift into the marketing domain. The job is exciting and ensures career growth in no time. But it would be wrong to call marketing, an easy job. Marketing is an art and one needs to perfect it in order to become a successful marketer. In this article, we are listing five traits a successful marketer possesses. Have a look:

1. Be Fearless:

Successful marketers are fearless. Since, it is directly concerned with getting revenue to a business, marketing as a field needs bold and creative individuals who can come up with new and unique ways of bringing more business. Off course analytics are important while making a marketing plan as well. But if you manage to catch hold of the pulse of your target audience, then it becomes easy to combine together both, creativity and analytics.

2. Do Thorough Research:

Being fearless is important but equally important is to not make assumptions. A successful marketer backs his ideas and actions with thorough research. Before you chalk out a marketing plan, do thorough research about your target audience; understand what works for them and what doesn’t work for them.

3. Become A Great Storyteller:

Once you have identified what your target audience needs, the next step is to convince them that your offering is the perfect solution for their need. The idea is to present your solution as the perfect solution to their problem and for that you need a great build up. Presenting your solution at a premature stage may not get you the customers for your business

4. Build Relationships:

Highly effective marketers are the ones who have aced the art of building lasting relationship with their target audience. And this relationship can be built only when you are in touch with your target audience on a regular basis. It also needs marketers to get their target audience to admire and have faith in your business offering. Today, many businesses have taken the social media route to building relationships. This has indeed proven to be a very effective way to communicate with the customer and also helps build credibility amongst them.

5. Never Stop Learning:

This is one of the most differentiating traits in a successful marketer. No matter how good you may be at your job, never stop seeking new ways around marketing. One of the most effective ways could be to associate with people from your field and learn from them. No two minds think alike and each and every person is blessed with a completely different way of thinking. This could help you bring about a positive effect on the way you do things. Another great way is to keep abreast with the new technologies being applied to the field of marketing and learning about them.
The marketing function is getting complex with the changing times. Even though a marketing role needs you to be on your toes, the excitement involved in the role makes it one of the most interesting functions of running a business.

5 Small Steps to Be a Core in your Organization: A Personal Perspective

We all have this: a dream of becoming a core member of the organization we work in. However, we still believe in the myth that all the overtime work works wonders. After several years of observation and being in it, I have learned a lot about the corporate world, from the politics to the great things about it. In my opinion, allotting extra effort and time is a plus, of course, but not necessary. Here are 5 simple ways how you can climb that career ladder in a nutshell:

1. Put Organizational Goal First

Every organization becomes a mess when its employees are putting their personal agenda over the company’s goal. Each employee has his/her own roles, but the company has only one common goal and vision. An organization is a subtle but jealous girlfriend. It won’t be saying anything at first, but once it gives its ultimatum, it will definitely make or break you. As an employee, genuinely giving importance, understanding and respect to the organizational goal is already an advantage and in fact, it is giving you leverage.

2. Be little early - Always

Always be on time – this has always been a simple command that is taught in schools when we were young and that is something that isn’t needed to be explained by rocket science, here good to you to be a little early because on time is already late. Higher management hates people who procrastinate and who are always late in going to the office. As these people also did their best to adjust to the habit of managing their time effectively, it’s also time for you to do the same – not later, not tomorrow, but now. So without putting extra effort, just put a little adjustment and finish your priorities on time.

3. Stick to Strong Work Ethics

A work ethic is a set of moral principles that a person uses in his/her job. Your career doesn’t only require you to wake up at 6 in the morning, get coffee, be in the office at 9 am, *just* finish routines and go home at 6pm. Most people in the higher position thrive in integrity, discipline, a sense of responsibility and teamwork, and definitely putting an emphasis on quality work. Remember, these people do not settle for mediocrity that’s why they are where they are now. An employee who displays a strong work ethic usually gets noticed and gets the trust of the higher management.

4. Let that Passion Burn

According to Simon Sink, the author of Start with Why, “Working hard for something we don't care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion.”  Usually, people measure their passion towards their job through their job titles and salary range. However it should not be the case. Once you point your perspective the other way around, definitely everything will follow.

5. Attitude > Talent

Attitude always beats talent. David has beaten Goliath. An employee who may have a skill of a god but the attitude of a trash is not needed in an organization. This is also the reason why recently, hiring managers started conducting EQ and AQ tests, which would determine if the candidate would fit in the work environment of a company.  I’ve always thought that ultimate optimism will surely bring a person a long way and the good news is, attitude is not a trait inherited through the genes. Attitude can always be learned through intensive trainings and improvement in perspectives. Always do self-assessments and practice mindfulness. Always have that Yes Attitude and be open-minded. Soon enough, your managers will take notice and who knows, you might end up training your colleagues in the future!

Being a core in an organization also come with big responsibilities. So once you reach your goal, you will also face the responsibility of keeping yourself up and delivering that quality output. Always keep your enthusiasm up and once you keep these five ways as habits, your career will eventually be on its peak in no time!

The Important 10 Social Media Manager Skills You Need for Success

There are a lot of ideas floating around about what makes a social media manager good at what they do. There are a lot of millennial out there that think, hey. They know what the youth wants, they know what relevant memes and hashtags are getting buzz. They can slap a funny .GIF on a Tweet and get a lot of retweets! What more can anyone ask for?

In reality, that’s essentially a fantasy that signals someone has no actual idea of what it takes to be a social media manager. So if that’s the case, what does it take to be a social media manager in 2016?

 1. Community Management

Social media isn’t just about putting up a post and then only logging in when you need to do it again. Communication is essential for anyone who manages social media accounts, especially if they want to give the company an image that shows they’re willing to reach out and talk to their audience base. No one says you have to respond to every comment, but questions and the occasional praise tweet getting a like or response makes an audience more willing to interact with a business’ social media content.

2. Analytic Understanding

There is a very large business aspect to social media management, much to the chagrin of those who think it’s all about posting funny pictures and stock phrases. Social media managers have to know what works, why it’s working, and what isn’t adding to a business’ social media success. They also have to have the numbers to back all of this up.

3. Planning

Social media campaigns actually take a lot of work, which is a commonly misconstrued aspect of the job. Just like any marketing plan, social media marketing requires research, testing, and carefully laid out details that contribute to the overall campaign.

4. Project Managing

After you have the planning phase figured out, now you have to understand how to execute and follow these idea leads. This doesn’t just mean throwing out some tweets now and again: you’ll need a scheduled rundown of blog posts, videos, images, graphics, tweets, and other social media account plans that all contribute to your overall goal. If you aren’t working on this at least once a day, you’re probably not doing it right.

This is also just one campaign. If you’re running more than one campaign at a time, double or triple this workload.

5. Photo and Graphic Creation

While funny .GIFas and graphics aren’t the only part of social media management, they are a part of it, especially with the introduction of image heavy networking sites like Instagram and Tumblr. This can include finding images that work with what you’re trying to do OR generating and creating images of your own. Social posts are more successful with images, so this is a very important part of executing a successful campaign.

6. Time Management and Priorities

Every job requires excellent time management skills, but social media managers need to have this ability in spades. They also need to understand what the purpose of their job is and focus on it more than anything else. Social media management is about looking at areas of a campaign that need work and developing them to be on par with all the other aspects.

7. Learning to Listen

Social media management is very much about rolling with the punches. You need to be able to absorb information and listen well when someone is trying to communicate with you. This goes for your team and co-workers, as well as those you’re targeting on social media. Listen to feedback, take it to heart and keep on moving.

8. Develop a Thick Skin

If you’re familiar at all with social media, and you should be if this is your dream job, you’ll know that not everyone has a positive thing to say to you. As someone managing social media accounts, you’ll be dealing with the brunt of this and you’ll need to know how to handle it accordingly. As much as you’d like to respond to hateful comments, rein it in and thicken your skin.

9. Be Inventive and Innovative

Being a social media manager means being eclectic with your skillset. If you don’t have the budget or resources to do the work you need to do, start learning how to do it on your own. If you know how to shoot videos, edit photos, and do your own research, then you’re off to a great start.

10. Get Risky

Sometimes campaigns fail and ideas don’t take off, and that’s okay. Social media marketing is still relatively new and you need some wiggle room. You’ll fail at times, but you can’t learn what works without learning what doesn’t.

Success strategies for fast growth firms

A company is a lot more than wood, cement and concrete. It is indeed a collection of promises, goals, intellect and strategies. A firm is most likely to succeed if it has the most talented and intellectual workforce. An efficient employee is a much better option than a committed one. Employees who work for the betterment of their organization know that they will equally be benefited if the firm prospers!
When we talk of mind control to achieve desired results, the first thing that gets into our mind is: How to achieve the objectives? There is one word answer to this question- strategy. It is the method through which an individual decides to hit the particular target. A company will never be able to make profits on the whole if there is no “performance management”. Basically that means that management ensures that employees work so as to achieve the goals of the firm. If their performance is not as per the standards, success will be a forgotten story.

We see on the internet, a huge bundle of advices and suggestions regarding the methods companies may employ to improve worker’s efficiency, but ta-da we will discuss the opposite here. Let us see from the employee perspective all those measures that can be taken to make the company lucrative:

1.       MAKE UP TEAMS:
It is obvious that a detached workforce can never make up the best one. Employees shall not be aliens to each other; they shall make sure they are tied by the element of loyalty and commitment. Their efforts will give the most astounding results if they work in teams. These days, flatter organizations are more into fashion, the “max Weber’ bureaucratic structures have long faded away.

2.       INNOVATION INJECTIONS:
This can be the result of my first suggestion. On individual level even, you may come up with great ideas. But if you lack the courage and confidence to share them with the rest, your team will undoubtedly help you out. Innovations and creativity is never disliked by firms. They cherish individuals who are loaded with them. Employees may set short term, quarterly or half yearly goals to present some unique idea to the top management.

3.     PLAY WITH COST OF PRODUCTION:
Heard of GENERAL MOTORS? These Japanese business tycoons increase profits by not raising the selling price, in fact by lowering the cost of production. They were the pioneers of lean manufacturing or “just in time production”. Similarly employees shall play with the cost of manufacturing. They shall devise strategies that lead to overall reduction in cost. This will automatically lead to an increment in profits.

4.     A WARM WELCOME TO DIVERSITY:
These are no old times, where recruitment discrimination will be a bottleneck to some brilliant candidates. Today skills and your talent is what will get you the job, not your gender, culture, religion or race. A diverse workforce is most likely to squeeze out some fresh and mind-blowing ideas. People from other cultures view problems from a different perspective and hence provide unique solutions. Employees shall ensure a healthy work environment that supports diversification.

5.     SMART GOALS:
I do get it that setting goals is not the task of employees but I will talk of this key pointer under the umbrella of MBO (management by objectives) only. This is a modern method where management sets up groups and with collaboration, assigns goals to employees. Now it is the turn of team members to assign themselves some smart, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely goals. They are self-aware of their own potentials. One thing that needs consideration here is that goals shall be tough and challenging but achievable too. A time efficient employee asdiscussed in this great article  is a company’s most wanted choice today.

6.       360 DEGREE EVALUATION: this is a kind of evaluation method. Basically it comes under the domain of performance appraisals. We know how important these appraisals are. 360 degree evaluation, as the name suggests is done by every other person that interacts with you at workplace. Your supervisor, the HR authority, your subordinates, colleagues and you yourself. I believe it is very necessary; appraisals shall be from all aspects. This will not only give employees a chance to improve but will also set standards for others to follow.

7.       OWN YOUR WORKPLACE:
When somebody makes faces while going to office early morning, does not care if the company is going in losses, hates the batch mates and is in constant struggle to somehow drop out of the firm- he/she is a waste for the company. The company is incurring useless cost keeping him/her hired. If an employee doesn’t feel like working the best way is to “resign”, nothing wrong with it, it is your right, whereas a little motivation will do wonders. When I say “own the place”, I mean act as If you were the sole proprietor.

8.       BE THE CONTRIBUTOR OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE:
A culture of any workplace constitutes all the norms, values and structure that it possesses. One needs to be a part of that culture to comprehend it in a better way. Take for instance the folklore and stories; these are transmitted to the fresh entrees so that they may informally learn more about the firm. So strategically, one may work to enhance the culture by taking the lead in maintaining discipline. Make sure nothing goes wrong from your end. In fact you contribute to your fullest in maintenance of it.

There is one more thing that needs to be put in limelight before I put a full stop to my discussion. Take criticism positively. Remember: you are in the phase of learning. Even if that criticism is to let you down, remember a ship will sink only if water gets inside it. Do not let the negativity creep in you. The more you improvise, the more will it be beneficial. Your self-grooming will ignite your own career growth to the maximum. It shall be your goal to work for a mutually beneficial and long term work relation.

Tips for Following Up on Your Job Application

Here are some job application tips to keep in mind when following up on a job application:

👉 If you don’t get a confirmation that your application was received within one week, consider following-up. Again, this will vary depending on what the application instructions indicate. Sometimes applicants are specifically requested not to follow-up. Other times, they may list an email address for you to check on your status. But one week is normally an appropriate time to follow-up.

👉 Send a follow-up letter if there is an email or mailing address.

👉 If phoning to follow-up, here are some appropriate fact-finding questions to ask. But remember, don’t demand to know what is happening; be professional.

  • What are the next steps in the recruiting process?
  • Do you know the approximate timeframe for the process?
  • Will all candidates be contacted?
  • Do you need any additional information about my candidacy? (Or briefly share new information that adds to your application.)
  • If you plan to visit the company’s location, mention the timeframe and your eagerness to meet – ask if it’s possible to arrange an interview during your visit.

We hope this is helpful to you!

Want to be a Virtuoso in Pilot Jobs? Go Through the List

Image Credit: Jacom Stephens | Getty Images

Being ace aviator is not a trivial kind task as perfection in each and every step requires extensive practice and training. As long as there are people with aspirations to fly, there will be proficient instructors who will always consider developing necessary and required skills in the upcoming aviators as their utmost priority. Many seasoned instructors, therefore, continuously keep working on inventing unique and more effective ways of training and learning the art of flight.

Keeping in mind the magic additives- concentration and patience, those with a childhood dream of finding a career in aviation, should always be open for self-improvement, learning new methods of perfecting the art of flying, and working on some of the common problems that are being passed down through generations.

The following passage sheds light on some of the tips that will benefit both starters and experienced aviators alike.

Pay attention to what the airplane is telling you

If there was just one skill that you could master, it should be knowing what your airplane is telling you. The art to keep the ball centered will result in a precise flight. Your posterior should help you by signaling if the plane is flying in a given line. Additionally, also learn to pay attention to the skid ball. Learning nose attitude is also very helpful as its the primary instrument for airspeed control in a light aircraft. A pilot, who is aware of what the most is doing and can control it in all situations, will never get in trouble.

Get your aerodynamics basics right

Generally, pilots just have a knowledge of why an airplane flies, but only a few focus and spend their time in understanding the basics of the science of aerodynamics. Though it is not necessary to become an aero engineer but updating yourself with aerodynamics, and it's intricacies will assist you to get handier with the machine. Additionally, you will be able to improve your reflexes and jet management including effects of angles, controlling the chamber of wing and tail, among others.

Practice one of the toughest parts of flying- landing

As an aviator, it is most critical to concentrate on landing and learn this art to ensure safe and accurate landings.

Firstly, to achieve the accuracy in landings rivet your eyes completely on the runway numbers displayed on the windshield.

These numbers will constantly tell you where the airplane will touch down on the runway. The numbers work in two steps - if these are visually moving towards you (down the windshield), then you have to drive over them; whereas in case the numbers are moving away from you (up the windshield) then you have to go under them.

Secondly, as an aviator, you shall have two major goals:-

a) To know where the airplane is going to touch down and have a good control over it.

b)  Always try to touch down in the first 600-800 feet of a runway and try to complete your landing on a 2000 –foot runway, regardless of how long the runway is. A 2,000-foot runway is considered short for landing, and hence it is pertinent that you take the help of an ace instructor and practice the short landing. Getting yourself involved in the comprehensive training sessions will also help you rectify your problems.

Get right with the geographic features

Understand all the geographic features of the plane and know all the navigation techniques.  Getting well versed with these skills will help you answer questions like whether to head towards a particular direction or to avoid it. Moreover, always stick to GPS, and like in any other career, always stay updated with the rapidly advancing technology.

Make your each flight a learning experience and improve on the new one

Each flight of your career gives you a room to learn and improve on the required parameters. Be it any situation, whether you are flying regularly or not, it is necessary to work on the factors that will increase your proficiency and help you to become an ace aviator. Observe your mistakes- smaller or bigger, and find out solutions for them. Like for instance, check out the accuracy of your take off time or focus on the ETA in your head. A continuous practice will help you reach higher levels of proficiency.

So, in conclusion, just like any other industry, one can become good at an aviation job by regular practice and hard work in terms of working on closing gaps in their performance. For a pilot, this process of self-improvement is even more important as flying requires mastering a lot of things and having an acute attention to detail. With lucrative pilot opportunities available around the globe, try to be tech savvy, improve in the areas of mathematics and maps, and keep yourself updated with new technologies.

Accounting & Finance 2016 Salary Guide - UAE

A review of the expected salaries for accounting and finance professionals in the UAE for 2016.

Hiring trends

Thanks to the UAE weathering the decline in oil prices more successfully than other GCC countries, the federal government has been able to maintain the majority of its fiscal policies and the delivery of its large-scale projects.

Businesses are therefore broadly confident about the region’s growth prospects in the foreseeable future.  This optimism is set to benefit accounting and finance professionals, as UAE employers seek to reorganise their finance teams and improve systems and processes – all in anticipation of future expansion.

The jobs market for accounting and finance professionals is extremely competitive, however, and UAE employers are becoming increasingly demanding with the criteria that they are setting for new hires.

Talent supply

Although the regional economy has plateaued in recent months, partly due to the reduction in oil and gas activity, UAE employers continue to fill open vacancies and backfill permanent positions.  They are also preparing for growth as a result of the government taking a number of measures to diversify the economy. This has led to a talent shortage as employers search out the best candidates to help take their organisations forward.

Employers are keen to attract finance professionals with formal accounting qualifications who can bring financial discipline and improved controls to their organisations. The most sought-after candidates hold ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualifications, are familiar with US GAAP, IFRS and SOX accounting standards, can use accounting software (such as Oracle and SAP) and have three to five years’ experience of working for a multinational corporation.

The GCC remains a unique region both culturally and economically. So in 2016 those candidates who will have the edge in the jobs market will be able to combine local knowledge with sector knowledge and experience. Nevertheless, the positive publicity being generated by the media has meant there is renewed interest in the UAE as an expatriate destination from finance professionals across the globe.

Salary & compensation trends

In 2016 the salaries of accounting and finance professionals are expected to increase by 4% on average, above the forecast regional average of no growth or negative salaries. Individuals who are already based in the UAE can expect their salaries to increase by at least 5-6% when they move jobs, however. Rent and the cost of living are expected to remain similar to 2015, with net savings expected to increase.
